wow. that's the bummer of instant access tech. if you don't keep right on it, it's already old. sorry. really. we're getting our act together.

and here's a quick update. laura borths and faith ackerman will be singing with us this sunday, 4/22. if you haven't checked out a gathering at the mulberry house yet, why not join us this sunday at 9:57am? then, i'll be out of town on sunday, 4/29, and we're gearing up for some new stuff in May.

so, we won't have a gathering at the mulberry house on 4/29, but we'll kick off something fun and new on 5/6. don't miss it.

Can't sleep. Surfing the net, looking at other Jacob's Well sites. So much common ground. Beautiful to see communities coming to life all over the world around the idea that Jesus broke all the rules just to have a conversation with someone that no one else wanted to talk to. Here in Gaylord, we've struggled lately. Lot's of hurts and losses among our fledgling church folk. Frustrating delays and expenses with our building to be. Illness in the Mays' household. But God is faithful. Our mission "to love as Jesus loves" is our hope. It is who we will BE. Everything else is the small stuff.

35 people stood up under the Pavilion on Court in downtown Gaylord, Sunday morning, to help break a Guinness World Record for the most people, in one 24-hour period, to stand up against poverty.

621,609 people, worldwide, participated in this event to remind world leaders to keep their commitments to the UN Millennium Development Goals. http://www.standagainstpoverty.org/

Hi,
What are you doing at 7:30 tonight (Monday, 10/9)? Want to break a world record?

Meet me at Brothers Coffee & Tea, downtown Gaylord (across from Rite Aid) at 7:30 tonight so we can plan our participation in "Stand Up Against Poverty" this coming Sunday morning.

Join us as we set the Guiness World Record for most people standing up against poverty! You can learn all about it at http://www.standagainstpoverty.org/about.

One of the joys of reimagining church, the way we are at Jacob's Well, is that we get to respond quickly and creatively to new opportunities (and old needs!). I just learned today about this great opportunity for us to stand up with tens of thousands across the globe in support of the Millennium Development Goals (which include eradicating extreme poverty by 2015).

So...instead of meeting at Toby & Carinna's house for Sunday957 this week, let's meet on the courthouse lawn (I think) at 9:57am, 10/15, and Stand Up Against Poverty at 10am with our glocal* neighbors. It only takes a few minutes and we'll be standing up for those who can't stand for themselves. The community will be invited to join us downtown for htis historic moment.

Then, Jacob's Well, and any guests who wish to join us, will walk over to our property at 101 East Mitchell Street for a short time of outdoor prayer to wrap-up our regular Sunday 957 time together.

"Into the Woods" is Worth the Journey

Website's back. Thanks Steph for the updates. Photo from a Boston production of "Into the Woods." Gaylord Area Productions is producing the play at the Gornick in early August. And we're in it!

Plan on potlucking with us, 5pm, this Sunday, June 18, at Brothers Coffee & Tea. We'll do an overview of the gospel of John then listen together to a professional reading of the whole book. If you have time to read it through yourself, ahead of time, it will help you get the big picture. Things to bring Sunday: a questioning mind and open heart, some food to share, and at least one friend (we're just starting this study so it's an extra good time to bring a guest).

"Into the Woods" tickets are available soon at the information center downtown. Kathy is doing the set for Gaylord Area Productions and I have the part of the baker. It's fun. Hard work. Musically challenging. Fun. And, I hope you all come see the show 8/3-8/6 at the Gornick Auditorium. If you know for sure that you'll be going, let me know right away and I'll reserve some tickets for you at the cast discount.

You know how I see metaphors in almost everything. Wait 'til you see this play. There are many beautiful parallels between this retelling and integration of classic fairy tales and the story of Jacob's Well. Ask me about it sometime.
